Our own tips

We live here, and we know
the lake well

We live in the annexe next door, and we know these hills well. The right path for your legs, the osteria that serves lake fish, the boat that takes you to Monte Isola without queuing: ask us, before you set off or once you are here.

The lake and Monte Isola

Lake Iseo is enclosed by mountains. In the middle is Monte Isola, the largest lake island in Italy: you can get around it on foot or by bicycle, among fishing villages and olive groves. Ferries leave from Sulzano and Sale Marasino; scheduled boats also call on our shore.

Lovere and the Bergamo shore

Lovere, a few minutes from the house, has a lakefront to walk along at sunset and the Accademia Tadini with its picture gallery. Along the shore you come to Riva di Solto, looking out over the water, and villages suspended between lake and hillside.

Franciacorta

South of the lake stretch the hills of Franciacorta, with the vineyards and wineries of its traditional-method sparkling wine. Many can be visited by appointment: a day of tastings, abbeys and small villages.

Val Camonica

To the north lies Val Camonica: in 1979 its rock carvings became the first Italian site to be recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Further on is the Terme di Boario spa, to end the day at an easy pace.

The mountains, in winter too

The trails begin right behind the house, from easy walks to climbs with a view over the whole lake. In winter, between half an hour and an hour's drive away, there are ski resorts such as Monte Pora and Presolana, Montecampione and Borno.

Bergamo

Bergamo's Upper Town (Città Alta), enclosed by its UNESCO-listed Venetian walls, is less than an hour's drive away: the funicular, Piazza Vecchia, dinner in a city trattoria. Orio al Serio airport is on the way.

A base for northern Italy

Milan, Verona, Venice
in a day

From Solto Collina you can drive to the great art cities of the north and be back on the lake in the evening. Approximate times, without traffic:
